Yes, Adwords is a great way to generate traffic and geotargeting would be the best thing to do, however if my assumption is correct, MrHelpful is interested in traffic for his mortgage business. Unfortunately mortgage related keywords are among the most expensive you can bid on. There are some people willing to pay up to $30 per click for mortgage related keywords. I know it sounds crazy, but it's true. I am working with a client now who once paid $88 for a single click! He obviously needed help. Adwords can be complex and confusing for some people, but if you can find or hire someone who knows what they are doing and can help you reduce your costs and increase your click through, it's still a good way to generate traffic. You can buy traffic by using PPCwhich is provided by top search engines like Google, Bing, Yahoo and Ask to name afew. Best of them is Google Adwords. Yes, that can be true, but there are tons of local businesses who are very successful using Google Adwords. It depends on the following factors (this is just a short list): Your market area--you can target to within one mile of your place of business, but if you're in a tiny town in Wyoming, that's probably not going to help. Your market area has to be large enough to support a search volume that makes sense for you. Your market niche--What are you selling? Some products or services are much easier than others in PPC. Average selling price and margin in your product or service--How much is an average customer or a sale worth to you? If you don't know that, you shouldn't be doing PPC in the first place. The higher the value of a customer, the more it makes sense for you to do PPC. How well your website converts--No sense in driving traffic to your website if it's poorly done and people won't call you or contact you. For most small businesses, doing PPC also means making changes to their website so it will produce results from the increased traffic. These are a few of the items we evaluate when telling a client whether or not it makes sense for them to do PPC. And yes, relevance is critically important. If Google doesn't feel your website is relevant to your keyword or your PPC ad, you'll pay a lot more for a click than someone whose site and keyword and ad are all relevant to each other. Relevance could mean the difference between a $10 or a $.10 click. It's a very big deal. In my admittedly biased opinion, the best thing to do is hire an expert!

One more thing that will help is to use very specific keywords/keyphrases. You will get a lot of non-converting clicks if you use very generic or broad terms. Find keywords your customer use when they are ready to buy, and are searching for specific products or services.

Hey from experience, buying traffic is worthless. Most of it is traffic from russia or china and is traffic sent to you from botnets or zombie computers, its not worth it. Maybe if you are selling a site, and need to prove there is allot of traffic coming to your site, it may be worth it, but if your in it for the long haul, the traffic from buying it is irevelent and it does not influence your sales, or adsense.

Thought I'd post a little feedback on this topic as I did try buying traffic from a few different sources. It's a little hard to determine exactly which services provided good results and which didn't, but the end result is that I more than made my money back. while it could be that I would have got those sales anyway through good link building I did get a decent ROI, with one exception where the traffic has pretty much failed to eventuate. I'm experimenting with a couple of services, sending traffic to different landing pages from the same provider to see what converts and what doesn't. The best way to get traffic is through SEO, but if you want immediate traffic, use PPC. The problem is that if you don't what you're doing, this can be extremely costly and a large money drain. I would definitely look into multiple PPC companies before even start work.

If you don't have disposable income, I would stay away from buying traffic. Start working on SEO and getting the word out there.. the internet is a slow climb, believe it or not!

I agree. SEO takes longer (and will still cost some money) but there's probably more things that you can do yourself as a non-professional. Make sure your pages have good content, put up properly done title and description tags, make sure it's obvious how your site visitors can take the action you want them to take. If you want them to fill out a form to get a quote, then make it apparent how that is to be done. Don't think that simply having a 'contact us' page will do the job. Then do some testing! PPC on the other hand will bring you results right away, but you definitely need a professional in order to make sure you are doing things correctly and spending your money wisely.
