I am a Canadian citizen who would like to start an online cigar store in Florida. I would be interested in running it myself at first and would therefore be living in the US for extended periods of time. Currently I am a snowbird (spend winters in Florida).
1. Do I need any kind of immigration status to do so?

You do not need immigration status to do business in the US. Read more in our blogs about the steps to do business in the USA and start a business in the US as foreign national.

You would need to speak with an attorney who handles immigration issues to get a solid answer. Beyond that, you'll also need to looking into a tobacco sale license in that state\county and see before anything if a non-US resident can even obtain one. Then, you need to exam the best type of business structures that might suit you best.
