Does anyone know the steps required for a Canadian to start a business in the US? I run and online business for financial planners. My clients are frustrated with foreign transaction fees on their credit cards so I think it is time for me to look at a US based corporation.

If you want to start and build a physical business office in the US then follow the link given by ChristineL. But as you said, you already have an online business and are giving your expertise to your clients. I suggest before going and expanding your business, you first market yourself in specialized US business marketplaces and get feedback from your clients. Further, I know some people who have a small office (customer care and marketing) in the US but their business operations are outside from US.
