I am new to starting my own business and have so many questions. I was a cook for years and changed professions. I now have decided with my sister-in-law to start a small business. We want to start in one of our homes. What do we need exactly to get up and rolling. I have obtained a food server lic. and tax ID what else is needed can anyone help?

In most states you cannot prepare food sold to the public in a home kitchen.
You will need a commercial kitchen and they can be expensive to establish.
You may want to contact your local health department to find out what
regulations and licensing requirements you will need to comply with. As
JGabriel mentioned, a counselor at a small business development center or
SCORE office can help you through the process.

Hi tinamckay, have you checked out our Starting a Business section? It has resources to help you get started as well as a section on home-based businesses. The Business Licenses and Permits tool can help you navigate through the process. Another great resource is SCORE, one of SBA's resource partners. SCORE is a nonprofit association comprised of thousands of volunteer business counselors throughout the country. They are trained to serve as advisors and mentors to aspiring entrepreneurs and business owners (at no cost to you). You can find your local office or set up an online meeting to chat with someone about your questions.
