I would appreciate any guidance with the following:
1. Does the state of California certify WOB's?
2. In addition to any state certifications what other credible agencies such as the Women's Business Enterprise National Council should I apply for certification with?
3. I am interested in doing business with various state government agencies in Southern California. What agencies should I register with? For example, CalTrans or if I register with California Unified Certification Program will that cover all state government agencies?
At the federal level, there is no formal certification process for women-, veteran- and minority-owned small businesses with the federal government. You may choose to self-identify yourself as belonging to one or more of these groups during the registration process.
However, certification criteria at the state level differs from federal criteria.
Many state governments provide small business certification programs that help small businesses compete for government contracts. You can Visit the State Contracting Opportunities page to find out more about your state's certification programs.
