My father is living in California, and I live in Virginia. He is self employed already and is registered with the state. We want to form an LLC. We have articles of organization for the new company, but aren't sure if we need to re-do everything that he has for his business, such as employee ID number and other state registrations. Can we just file for a name change for the existing records and file the LLC? What do we have to do to transform his current business into the new one?
Also, once the company is started and registered in California, do I have to repeat the whole process again here in Virginia?
