When choosing a domain name make shure it discripes your business. If you are in the insurance business use the word insurance. If you are a small business or in a business that has to much internet competition and most of your business is done locally then include the area you are located. For exampleInsureanceCity.com If your local still has to much competion then use a smaller town which is close by. Spiders and Crawlers will search your domain name first looking to see if it is relevant to the rest of your page.The you can work on the body's content.
What I think is that whether the domain name has related keywords to reflect the nature of business, that is not really very important. Of course if you can land a good domain having that properties, that would be the best. Most important is having a domain name that is short and easy to remember, something 'catchy' would be nice.

If you are using the long tail keywords and has 10 characters then that would be a bad domain name. First, it is too long and next is it can't be remembered easily. However, your point is good but according to Matt Cutts (Google's Head of the Web Spam Team) choosing a brandable domain name would be the best idea. Yahoo is one example of a brandable name and it is a popular search engine too. Tech Crunch also is a domain name which is not actually related to the site description. But these two sites gained a high reputation in the web without even having the exact keyword with their domain. In a nutshell, focus on a brandable and easy to remember domain name.

If the domain is used to sell products or services only within your country, including the country in your domain, you'll see great results.

Depends on the necessity. If you want to target electronic products then go for a domain that is related to electronics. If you want to promote a single product then go for a targeted domain name.
Small and good. Less hyphens etc improve the quality of the domain.

Then using this tricks will help to get your business noticed where it would have never gotten on the 100th page. This idea does not mean abandon other good common sense tried and prove results. But those cost money or time that most do not have.
My suggestions are for those who need a hand up before they get to all the other bells and wistles. I have used these and know they to work. I was able to get several businesses to the top of the search in Google, Yahoo, and MSN all with zero dollars invested, a little bit of time and zero experience in SEO.
So while I respect your ideas let's keep in mind the audience I was attemptig to help. Those who have little money for internet marketing or SEO, those who know little about SEO and those who need results yesterday.

Above all else it should be memorable. You want to choose a domain name that people will be able to type into the URL box for themselves. (You don't want people using Google to reach your site forever, do you?) That being said, for small businesses looking to choose "the right" domain name with the potential to rank well, you can use Google's Keyword Tool (https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal). This is a free tool offered by Google that allows you to see the # of local and global monthly Google searches for any given keyword. You can use this data to steer you in the right direction if you are looking to include a keyword in your domain name.
