Dear Nevainc: Our company is known as a healthcare consulting company with most of our federal work coming from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). So, here goes. First, you should update your NAICS codes in CCR. Generally, healthcare consulting is actually a subset of management consulting and your NAICS codes are in the 541 arena, starting with 541611 and 541690. Second, you should go to the HHS website and look up the current 8(a) and set aside contracts in the healthcare arena. Regardless of whether you are 8(a) or not, this gives you some insight as to what is out there. Third, like the second idea, you should look up the agency forecast of prospective procurements. All agencies are required to forecast their potential procurements and this listing is a gold mine of information both as to the procurements themselves, their value and the contracting officer. Fourth, you should go to grants.gov and look up all of the grants that correspond with your healthcare area of interest. Believe it or not, for almost every HHS grant program, there is a technical assistance contract to back it up. Fifth, go to fedbizops and look up closed requests for proposals (RFPs) in your area of interest. This gives you an idea of two things: the scope of work and the term of the contract. You may have to wait a year but all the information is there for you to see. Having said all that about the federal sector, I would not ignore the state and local opportunities.
