I am in the process of registering a DBA in Louisiana. The section on this web page that discusses these registrations states that a Corporation will register with the Louisiana Secretary of State. However, when I called the LA SOS they advised that DBA registrations are done at the Parish level with the Parish Clerk of Court. Do you have any further clarification on this issue? Should I register with the SOS or with the Parish?
There is a difference between registering a DBA, which registers your business name, and registering your legal entity type (corporation, LLC, etc.) You would register the business name with your local parrish clerk's office. You will register your entity type, if you are not a sole proprietor, with your secretary of state after you register your DBA.
