DBA with EIN, now LLC...New EIN needed?

My partner and I just set up our LLC. We were previously doing business under our DBA. Our name changed slightly with the LLC. Do we need a new EIN? If not, is there anything we need to do to change our name with the IRS?

In the question the business has changed from a partnership to an LLC. Also, GNR, if you had a partnership agreement it now needs to become an operating agreement. If you did not have a partnership agreement you still need to form an operating agreement immediately. A good source of info on this is www.nolo.com. Turn the search box to search entire site and search operating agreement. Good Luck.

Yes, if you are incorporate, you will need to apply for a new EIN. However, if you have already incorporated and obtained a new EIN, you don't need to obtain yet another new EIN if you just changed your name.

Even though the name change does not require a new EIN, the change in ownership (structure) probably does.   I would contact the IRS, be sure you have speakerphone to wait on hold, and get the answer for the horse's mouth.   My bet is yes you do need a new EIN.

Hi GnR, According to the IRS page 'Do You Need a New EIN?' -- a name change does not require you to apply for a new EIN.
