How can we change our SIC Code?

Can anyone tell me who to contact to change my company's SIC & NAICS codes?

My SIC code is presently 3291 which is ABRASIVE PRODUCTS, we make polishing
compounds, where we use fumed silica, and platelet white alumina in our
products. At first glance this SIC Code makes sense.
We make these polishing products for High Tech companies for polishing
Silicon Wafers. We have very strict standards for cleanliness.
There is little or no dust associated with the fumed silica process and very
little dust generated by the alumina process since both processes are wet.
I have seen our vendors’ plants and they are dusty, I can understand why
they need to comply with the environmental requirements for Stormwater, but I
have a hard time reasoning out why we have been lumped into this SIC code.
Can anyoone help me figure out the best way to get my SIC code changed?

You should contact the federal agency or state agency that assigned you the code.

Why do your have to change your code? Is someone asking you to change it? SIC codes are just a general listing of codes to identify specific industries - governmental agencies use them to classify businesses - if your business changes - they should automatically update your classification. If you are in an industry - that is your SIC code. If you change industries - your code automatically changes. Is it that you put a code on a form or something? Just fill out a new form with a new SIC code - if you are doing public filings - just change the code on the new filings. For more information on NAICS and SIC codes - http://www.naics.com/faq.htm#q1
