I am relatively new to affiliate marketing and am curious as to which affiliate programs are the most successful? Currently I am working with Clickbank but have noticed some poor reviews of this program. Any suggestions as to the best programs would be appreciated.

Greetings Barbara. One of the first things I would suggest is to find some products to represent that have something to do with your target market. The reason for this is that as your email list grows you will have things to sell that the people on your list might very well be interested in.
You do not need to work through Clickbank. You can approach companies directly to see if they have an affiliate program. For example Netflix has been a very hot affiliate product for quite a wale. They have an affiliate program that you can sign up for and they pay you directly. I believe they are paying $18.00 a sign up trial offer. You might try scrolling to the bottom of any companies home page and some times they have a link for their affiliate program. You click that link and it will take you to the information about their affiliate program and how to sign up for it.
You can also build relationships with CPA companies. They have thousands of different offers you can promote. The CPA (cost per action) companies pay you for either leads or sales of different products. If you decide to go that route you might try using a company called Media Traffic. They are an advertising company that lets you promote your offers on thousands of different web sites. Try doing a Google search for it and you will get a lot more information.
Media Traffic uses what they call a PPV system. That is a (pay per view). Your ad will pop up on their computer for about 15 seconds. That is counted as one view. If you like what you see you simply click on the ad and it takes you to their offer or sales page.
You might also want to try Commission Junction. They have lots of different offers to promote like Clickbank does. Good luck and I hope this has helped.

Hey, affillite marketing can be rough, unless you have a very good niche that does not have allot of competition, you also have to draw traffic to your site in order to make money.
Google actually has a new service for affillites, you might want to check that out.

It really comes down to what you want to be a part of.

Any of the auto pay programs out there should be pretty fair. Clickbank, Share a Share and Commission Junction are, I believe, the biggest 3.
Instead of choosing a network, I wonder if it wouldn't be more successful for you to find specific mechants in your niche to work with. Find high conversion rate site and see where they are listed.
As an example my wine site is listed over at Share A Sale, but we also have an independent program that is largely used for in home tasting, but gives the same type of information that your get from one of the larger programs, without all the overhead and mark up.
My favorite way to market affiliate products is to look at online businesses I've bought from (or would like to buy from), and are in my niche. Then I check to see if they have an affiliate program. That way my affilate products fall naturally into my niche. I don't have to go out of my way to market them. Natalie
Very nice technique, I use a similar one. I think it is very important as a beginner to start in a small niche. So you fast get some success and can learn step by step.

Yes, it's important to know where you are in the learning curve and chose a matching strategy.
One of my teachers uses a baseball analogy. He says if your current skill level is at the T-Ball level, don't go playing in the major leagues.
Me, I'm just up from T-Ball.
