Has the Promotion/discount code website had its day?

I am toying with the idea of setting up a promotional code website offering vouchers discounts and codes. I am currently running a beta site in the uk to see if there is a business model. Does this business model still work in the USA as you guys are normally a couple years ahead of us. Or are there new innovative ideas for earning money out of affiliate programs.
