Hello everyone! I am still in the works of my home-based wedding/event planning business and hope that by March of 2011 I will be fully operational.
I would like to know where can I obtain information and guidance on creating contracts that I will be able to use with my future clients AND with vendors. How do you know what legal verbiage to use AND most importantly am I obligated to meet with an attorney for this type of work? I know that attorneys can be very expensive and I currently do not have the funds to meet with one. This is the reason why I am seeking answers within this forum.
All advice and information will be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!
Emy

independent contractor for one specific project. That is the type of legal
form you are looking for. Here are important terms you should have. First, a
description of what services you are to provide (as good as detail as
possible) along with any key delivery dates. Second, payment for services.
How much? When payment to be made (might be broken up into several different
dates)? Penalties for failure to perform? Penalties for failure to make
timely payment? Duties of the buyer such as required communication with you.
Extra fees due to you if buyer makes changes after a certain date. If there
is a dispute, does the winning side get attorneys fees? An "act of God"
clause might be a good idea too (also called a Force Majeure Clause). This
would be a situation where there was a violent storm that damaged the wedding
event space. If put "sample wedding planner contract" into google, I think
you should come up with a few sample contracts.
