Hi SBA members,A lot has happened since I last visited.i am wondering if any of you small business owners have graduated to using a shopping cart on their website?Currently my site is mainly an informatin site, but if I start selling product directly through my joomla site, I will need s secure shopping cart and payment system.Any one know of what trouble shooting or how I should set up the structure on my site?Thanks,Bruce
There are many different tools that you can use to get a shopping cart added
onto your website. I recommend that you find a application to integrate into
your site instead of trying to do everything yourself which will take up a
lot of time and energy.
It is not complicated. But you need to contact a web developer if you are not one. It will save you time.
No need to contact a web developer if you're only selling 1 product. Consider
setting up a paypal payment option. It's very simple and quick, just google
"accept paypal payment on my website".
I've worked with Virtuemart and I've got to say it is a case of taking time to understand how it works, once you get the hang of virtuemart and installing a payment method your going to not look back :)
Of course this is biased as I like to work in the Joomla environment but I've got to say, virtuemart is free however the quality payment modules and other stuff like SEO plugins is NOT FREE and you should not depend on FREE STUFF for promoting or optimising your site to rank properly. Always make sure your virtuemart shop URL's are showing properly if you want to rank in google easily, I say get virtuemart since it works with joomla and all you need to do is get a few virtuemart templates to do the styling for your virtuemart shopping cart!
Use paypal if you want a cheap script to accept payment, this is just the beginning, get money rolling in first then integrate a credit processing facility once you know the business is working and money is coming in! Just get the shop up first!
You can try Magento if you dont like Virtuemart but I say stick with virtuemart as once you understand it, you'll love it :)

there are many shopping cart software on the web that require no installation, but simply choose template and add logo etc. You may want to try out these.

The easiest way is with paypal.
They make it easy to insert the code in your site.
Later when you are making money you can upgrade to another type of cart with more payment options.
