You cannot pick one. SEO and PPC would work together.

      Hi Steve, It all depends, but if you are looking for immediate results PPC is probably a good way, also you can test certain keywords on a PPC level and see if it is generates the sales necessary for your business, this is what the big SEO firms do before they launch any major SEO campaign.   On SEO  you need to understand your competition and analyze what keywords are they going after, then find out what keywords can work for you, sometimes small to medium business owners don't have the budget to compete against big companies. Try to look for long tail keywords such as example: "New Jersey Pluming Services", versus  "New Jersey Pluming". This is how you can find niche keywords that can bring local clients to your site.  I persoanlly prefer SEO but you need to patient getting to #1 in certain keywords this can take 1 to 4 month approx. depending on keyword competiton and how well is your onpage developed. Both are good. Yet, I prefer doing SEO, Its a lot more cheaper and effective.

I think SEO is much better than PPC. because when you start your business, it's a big mistake to burn cash in PPC campaigns. You need your csh, or whatever your bank allows you, to develop your business core. And SEO is just a matter of how much time you could spend on your website design. Just my two cents.

Hi, It really depends... I always prefer SEO because it is more stable and it lasts regardless your budget. The only cases that i am using PPC is when i want to announce a new service for my company or a seasonal offer. PPC is great if you are on a hurry or you can't rank well.

The answer to which is better, SEO or PPC really is on a case by case basis, with several factors often coming into play   In the short term, PPC can be a viable even neccessary part of the advertising solution for a business.  In some cases, some businesses may get an excellent return on Pay Per Click.   This will not be the case for all business.    For businesses that have a very tight budget, PPC can hurt the business if they do not manage it extremely closely and if the leads they receive are not good, or cannot be turned into customers.   PPC can run up a fairly substantial advertising bill very fast.  In addition, if the owner is not keeping a close track of which ads people are clicking on, and asking potential customers what they searched for and clicked on, it can cause the money spent on PPC to be lost quickly.   Close management is important in every aspect of business, though since PPC can cost quite a bit every week, getting busy and not managing this can be particularly costly.  In the long term, the most effective strategy will be SEO combined with PPC and other forms of online advertising and advertising in general.   As indicated by other posters, SEO takes a great deal of time and if the business owner does not do any of it themselves, it can also be very costly.   SEO is an ongoing process, and the owner should strive hard to have some in house resources that can be devoted to it over time.   Another factor is how competetive the keyword is that is being considered for both PPC and SEO.   If the Keyword very competetive, such as cars, then it may take a very long time for SEO, even years, to produce results for that word, or even a less competetive keyword, and therefore, PPC for a very competitive keyword, or less competitive keyword may be the only answer.    

Well seo takes time and effort, while PPC, although it does require a degree of seo knowledge to be succesful, will always cost you money. IMHO it's worth spending your time with SEO because it's work that just keeps on paying you back indefinitely. At its simplest level, pick yourself a small nieche, by which I essentially mean a single keyword, and then focus in on it with several pages of targeted copy. If we can do SEO very well, PPC Can be better.

You will need combination of both to succeed in digital marketing field. It depends on what your business model is, otherwise you are just comparing apples with oranges...
