I have had incredible success using WordPress sites (both the free or the
self hosted). After just one week from go-live my site below ranked on page 1
for google search for my keywords. I have had the exact same experience with
several other domains (some took 3 weeks, but all made page one).
This reply is too late for the original poster, but others should consider
using WordPress and not stress so much about SEO. [I have no affiliation with
WordPress...they're just good and simple to work with.]
There are alot of places online that you can write articles and build your
links to your website. Be very careful who you employ for SEO services. If
you hire and outsource this, you want to make sure the company does only
white hat SEO, otherwise your new website could get penalized by google. I
would start out writing articles first and posting them on websites like
hubpages, article directories, and other related niches. If you don't have to
write the articles, you can outsource this job to writers for a very
reasonable cost.
Hi 5 dogs, It is a little hard to answer your question without knowing the
platform you built your site on. Are you using Wordpress or have you just
built your site using say, Dreamweaver and a basic hosting site? When you ask
a question in a forum like this, more details will be helpful. Regardless, I
would suggest a few things (some of which have already been suggested). 1.)
Start out with a plan for the text that you will use on each of your pages or
blog posts. Search engine optimization is all about the keywords you choose
to optimize for. So you have to start there. The best free tool to use to
determine what keywords to target is Google's Keyword Suggestion Tool. If you
open up an Adwords account at Google, you'll get access to this tool for free
(opening an Adwords account is free too). To find the tool just do a search
on Google for keyword suggestion tool. Using that tool you can find out
exactly how many times people searched for particular phrases on Google in
the past month. That's valuable information and will help you decide on the
best keywords to use. Once you know what keywords to target then you should
write an article for each one. Each article should contain about 250 words
and contain the keywords about 4 or 5 times (no more, no less). Then either
use the text of these articles as pages (or posts if you're site is a blog).
You will now have a set of keyword-rich articles. 2.) Make sure that the same
keyword phrases are used in your title meta tag and description meta tags for
each particular page. Your webmaster should know what this is. If he doesn't
get a new webmaster. 3.) Get inbound links to your website. This means that
you need to contact people who have other websites and ask them if they will
link to yours. Of course the best way to do that is to have a great web site
that many other people WANT to link to. But since we all have to start
somewhere, a good way to get inbound links is just to make reciprocal
arrangements. Add one page to your site, call it "Links" or "Resources" and
trade links with associated but not competitive friends and other websites.
Sometimes just a few links more than your competitor can raise your rank. 4.)
Understand that SEO is a much more complex topic than can be covered in a
simple post like this. Plus there are as many opinions as there are
techniques. What I've described here is very basic, starter information. You
might want to consider contacting your local SBDC and seeing if they have a
workshop scheduled with someone who can teach you more. Wishing you the best.
