Do I need a license or anything special?

I am in the military stationed in georgia.  I'm a florida resident.  I'm active duty so have a full time job but want to start a small business from home.  I would be computer tuning vehicles from my home, and on the road.  It's not a 'normal' business so want to see what i need to do so I don't get in trouble.

Depending on the nature of your business and your state's business and tax laws, you may not be required to register your business. However, most likely if you are expecting to make a profit from these activities you will need to register for some business licenses including tax permits. Regardless of your profit or size, there are big advantages to register as a business - including liability protection, tax deductions, and financial assistance. Some states require anyone conducting business to register their name and entity type; it isn't an option. In my state, the law requires that a business be registered with the Secretary of State's office before they begin conducting business. There is a difference between registering your business name and entity type and obtaining a business license. Business licenses are issued by cities and counties and you will most likely need to have registered your name and entity type before you can apply for a business license.

I think you will need a Florida Motor Vehicle Repair License, however, I don't know the particulars if that license is recognized in Georgia. Moreover, I don't know if the State of Florida actually has a motor vehicle repair license.  I do know that counties in South Florida do require them.    Check out the Miami-Dade Government website for more info.  I think they have some helpful tips as well.   http://www.miamidade.gov/csd/permits.asp
