E-commerce taxes if you are not an American, sales from Canada.

My name is Robert Samson.

I am a resident of Ottawa Ontario Canada.

My partner and I will be selling goods online and would like to include the fine people of America as possible customers.

My question today relates to taxation.

 

On the website http://business.gov/business-law/online-business/sales-tax/ It states that if your business does not have a physical presence in that state you are not required to collect taxes on purchases made online.

 

Is this accurate when it comes to E-commerce?

I really want to be sure of things before going ahead and selling in America.

I am sure one day every country except a few will find another way to gouge some more taxes out of all of us.    Already our governments take too much and do not use the money in a responsible way.

Hi Robert, Yes, that's correct. Unless your business has a physical location in the U.S., you do not need to collect sales taxes.
