Energy Efficent Incentives

Our business needs to repair our current roof.  One of the options is to have an energy savings roof installed.  The company who offers this type of roofing said we might be able to get some incentives by installing this energy efficient roof.

 

I've been looking for information, but have been a little overwhelmed and don't seem to be looking in the right places for this type of information.  If someone could help point me in the right direction or lend me some information on this I would greatly appreciate it.  Thank you.

Check with your state department of energy resources. Often, programs are available at the state level to improve energy efficiency in small businesses, including tax credits against your state taxes.

Wow this is really a much more complex issue from a tax perspective. The energy tax credits are a good start. In addition you should also consider the abandonment of the remaining depreciable asset as a loss write off and the impact on your after tax cash flow.

mm415202, There are many incentives available to encourage businesses to become energy efficient. Check out Business.gov's Energy Efficiency Guide. It has great information on the benefits of becoming energy efficient and all the possibilities for your business. For general green business resources, use the Green Business Guide. Some resources: http://www.recovery.gov/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Recovery_and_Reinvestment_Act_of_2009 You can also visit the IRS's website as most of the incentives are tax credits or you can find a local IRS office and talk to them in person.
