Owells, There are no federal set asides for women owned businesses. Women are not considered a 'minority' and therefore don't qualify for most minority grants and loans. So you need another approach. You don't say what type of business this is, and that could make the difference in what kind of funding you pursue. If there is a valid community interest, like a school for unemployed people, there might be money or assistance available from local government or business. If it is a basic retail business, like a shoe store, it will be a lot harder. There are a couple of regions in the country that offer special loans in lower amounts. New York and Los Angeles are two major beneficiaries. Goldman Sachs has an outstanding loan program for small business, as does Sam's Club. So rather than looking to the government, look to the resources available from private banks and businesses -- I think you will be a lot more successful.
