I am in the process of seeking an exemption status. I have applied with the state and applied with the IRS. I was not aware how to do this at first, but muddled through filing the paperwork. What is the turn around time to receive this exempt status?

It varies with how busy the IRS may be. At this time of year, you will wait longer than you would if you had filed in August or September. Expect to hear from the IRS anywhere from a month to two or three months.
