finding a grant

we are taking our company a step further and going to 'reduce, reuse, recycle' for our products and use compostable products.  Also looking to decrease our carbon footprint thru the use of solar and wind energy.  I am a women in business (a citizen) and looking for a grant that fits this.  Grant info is confussing.  Is there a 'grant' person to talk with that can help seek a grant to fit our needs?  We are also looking to expand and hire people with disabilities.

grants really only seem to be available for the not-for-profit sector, not for streamlining or increasing efficiency of existing commercial businesses. I guess this makes sense to a point as it would effectively be like the gov gpaying to make your business cheaper to run.

Victoria - where is your business located? You can try to reach someone at your local economic development office to learn if there are employment grants in your area.

The federal government does not provide grants for starting and expanding a business. Grants from the federal government are only available to non-commercial organizations, such as non-profits and educational institutions in areas such as, medicine, education, scientific research and technology development. However, there are government loans available for women-owned and green businesses. Please use our Loans and Grants tool to see which ones you qualify for.

You may be eligible for a tax credit for installing solar or wind energy equipment. Check with your state energy department. Most such credits are available from your state, not the federal government.
