I would not consider free hosting for my business. That's because you
generally get what you pay for. I would have concerns about reliability and
about support when things go wrong. Hosting is very cheap these days
anyways...

Why would anyone that wants their business to be taken seriously use free
hosting? When hosting can be had so cheaply these days.

If you are in the business of providing a paid service or selling goods,
advertising takes away credibility.

If you are in the business of providing a paid service or selling goods,
having your own domain such as mycompany.com or mybrand.com goes a long way.

Another thing, try to get a .com or failing that a .net domain.

No, not really been using it. Hostgator is also a good web hosting site.

While I do not have experience with this specific company, do wish to add that I have had experience with various free services.   Oftentimes if they do not use you to sell ads, then they may use you or your information in other ways.  One way is selling information, or reselling information about you or your customers.      Be extremely cautious about this.   You don't want them gathering information on your clients and reselling them.    This occured with me when I downloaded a "free" contact us form for a website in the past.    In the fine print it said that they can "see" and resell information they gather on my customers.       It is not suggested that they should not make money in some way.    However, most people would rather pay a small amount per month than to agree to this or other unfavorable scenarios.     Unless you absolutely have no other alternatives, this is not likely where you want to save a few dollars per month.

Nosupportlinuxhosting.com is not free, but a buck a month isn't bad...  I found out the hard way lately though that they don't do backups.  It's pinned up on their site, so it's my fault for missing it. Good setup though, as long as you're comfortable having absolutely no tech support.  They gave me shell access (Linux command line) IMAP email accounts, mysql...  Prety much anything I needed.

There is an expression on the web that goes "If you are not paying for the product - you are the product" The vast majority of free webhosting services should be avoided in my view. You can get pretty good - really cheap webhosting from companies like GoDaddy, Enom, Bluehost and a hundred otheres. Google sites is also a free option that is a good choice for someone on a really tight budget and lacking technical skills. The problem with free hosting is that because it is free it attracts lots and lots of spam and other non-desirable rubbish, also you should wonder how these companies make their money, after all, it costs money to run servers, bandwith etc. Best regards   Finbarr
