My company has been been trying to get several other websites up. We are hoping to put content on them and update them every so often so it drives in traffic to the main site. Only problem is every website costs money.
There is a company here in Utah that trains businesses to build their own websites and we're looking into that. They say the class is totally FREE. I was hesitant at first but I went ahead and signed up and read through their fine print. The fine print:
You must be a small to medium sized business owner/employee (200 or less employees).
Each participant MUST have their own laptop and bring it to the class (power plugins will be provided).
You must be one of the first 75 students to sign up. The class size is limited to 75 students and the system will not allow you to sign up after that quota has been met.
Only two individuals from each organization can attend.
Anyway, if there are any Utah folks or businesses that want to send somebody out to Utah for their one day training I'm going to be there!

Oh yeah... I wanted to ask if anyone has heard of ZapGrad?
Please let me know because I think their company sounds really great but I'm still a little hesitant.

Using an open-source platform is the easiest way for a non-technical guy to get his or her message across. Don't bother learning too much HTML and web site building for that; only learn those if you love to learn.
Instead, as paragon suggested, you can use a technical guy (like myself) to deploy an open-source platform. There are some one-time and recurring charges, but after that you are ready to put anything that's on your mind (Blog).

You can also consider an open source software like Joomla or Wordpress. A good developer will be able to install and put together a nice looking website for about 5 hrs. So its very inexpensive. While there is a learning curve involved in using the text editor, it should be no more intense that the classes you were planning to go to anyways.
Ultimately, you should consider leaving the web development to someone who knows what they are doing, while you focus on your business and maximize it.

I read through the website and didn't see any fine print or hidden fees that might be associated with this offer; most likely it's a promotional tool or tax gain for the company to do this. However, I'm sure you'll end up needing to buy specific products or more training to learn properly to build a website; it takes a lot more than 6 hours of training to learn HTML\PHP. Thanks for the tip jimstephenson. I am starting a yard care supply business (in provo Utah) and need to get a website up but don't know where to start. I actually received a flier from zapgrad on my door advertising some computer building classes but I hadn't looked into it. I am asuming they make most of their money off of the classes they charge for and use the free class as a way of advertising. I signed up for the free web dev 2.0 class they are offering and received an email shortly after confirming my sign up. I wasn't charged anything or even asked for a credit card or any other payment information. I red every word on their site carefully and couldn't see any catches to it. They say they expect the participants of their free class to tell friends and family about zapgrad. I am fairly certain this is actually free and it probably does work for advertising (they got us to at least ask questions abpout it on forums, that has to be worth something and I will definately tell my family and friends if I like it). Well jimstephenson thanks for the link to their site. If they ask for any payment information then I will simply cancel my sign up and not go. If so I wil l post on here right away.
