I am a licensed General Contractor in So. California, a disabled Vet. owned small business.

I am thinking about puting together a team that can provide the financing, project management and all of the paperwork necessary to do government construction work. Does anyone have any advice????

I am also a Gen B contractor in OC, CA. setting up my team right now with design, engineering to construction..registering for GSA rfp and setting up for government bidding. Like to hear our input.Have you set up? DUNS and CAGE number?
I worked as a Civil Engineering Technician except for my last 15 years. I also worked with large firm-fixed-price contracts processing change orders, claims and submittals.At Present working for few government buildings in TX. In order to bid on government proposals you will need to register as a federal contractor. To register as a contractor in the CCR you will need a DUNS Number which is a unique nine-digit identification number provided by the commercial company D&B. After you obtained a DUNS number and activated your CCR record you can be assigned a CAGE Code. A CAGE Code is a unique Identifier assigned by Department of Defense. Check out the CCRs FAQs Guide to Codes which provides a chart to all the major codes within the CCR and how to find the right one for your company. In order to bid on government proposals you will need to register as a federal contractor. To register as a contractor in the CCR you will need a DUNS Number which is a unique nine-digit identification number provided by the commercial company D&B. After you obtained a DUNS number and activated your CCR record you can be assigned a CAGE Code. A CAGE Code is a unique Identifier assigned by Department of Defense. I don't know what kind of capital needs you are requiring for your venture, but I'd also like to point out that having a DUNS number will also allow you to be eligible to apply for the SBA's America' Recovery Capital (ARC) loan program. This is a brand new loan created from 2009 legislation that will provide up to $35,000 for small businesses that pass the established criteria. Repayment terms can extend out to 5 years. Before applying for an SBA ARC loan, you might want to check with your bank to find out if applying will negatively impact you. I talked with a small business owner whose banker told her that applying for the loan raises a red flag that your business may be experiencing financial hardships, whether you are or not. Her banker told her not to even fill out the paperwork because it could flag her business as high risk and make it more difficult to obtain future financing, so be sure to check all the ramifications before applying.
