Goverment Contracting

Hi,

I have been working on getting my company ready to receive goverment contracts. I have been told that this process should never cost any money, unless you choice to pay for it. Today I received a e-mail saying 'confirm your company's I-9 and E-VERIFY compliance '

Well I have filed 1-9's on all employees already. And I have never heard anything about this when I was registering.

Does the goverment want me to do it again? Does anyone know anything about this?

Of course they want money to do this.

U.S.DHS has a neat flyer that summarizes the E-Verify Federal Aquisition
Regulation (FAR) requirement and links back to the www.dhs.gov/E-Verify site
where you will find much more information. E-Verify also offers free live
webinars throughout the month, including one specifically for federal
contractors. You can find the schedule on the E-Verify website. Here is the

Hi mcmetalfab, E-Verify is free and voluntary and allows employers to determine employment eligibility of new hires and thevalidity of their Social Security Numbers. You can refer to the USCIS page for more information As for now, E-Verify is not required and the ruling to make it mandatory will not happen until September 8, 2009. According to the website, 'Federal contractors may NOTuse E-Verify to verify current employees until the rule becomeseffective and they are awarded a contract that includes the FARE-Verify Clause.' If anyone else has some insight into this issue, please feel free to add!

Hi: Christine is correct about E-Verify. The current version of FAR (the governing document for federal contracting rules) state under Subpart 22.18 that 'The E-Verify program provides an Internet-based means of verifyingemployment eligibility of workers employed in the United States, but isnot a substitute for any other employment eligibility verificationrequirements.' You may want to review this part of the regulation to be sure you are in correct compliance, in addition to the USCIS E-verify page provided by Christine. For help, SBA offers help with government contracting questions. If you have more questions, try there. From what I read this process does NOT have a fee associated with it. Again, when in doubt I suggest asking for help with government contracting questions from the proper authorities before paying any additional costs.
