I would suggest the following: If you are an average guy as you say - that means you have no experience in running a business or your own equity. Both things that will stop you from ever receiving $2 million - in a loan or SBIR/STTR grant. First, take some time and really develop a good business plan - a plan that is geared to obtain investment - almost a prospectus if you will. Second, find partners - those that know how to run and grow a business and have experience in the energy industry. Some people will work for only shares in a company if they beleive in your idea and you. When these are in place, there are several financing options like VC or SBICs or even some other government low-interest, rural development sources you can seek. But, you have to put your business in order first.

Thank you very much for your reply.  I will be looking into the development center and about SBIR.    Jamie, I have check with the loan tools, but didn't get the loans I want.  I am in a situation of an average guy with brilliant ideas and limit funded to expand/continue on my invention. 

Although the government does not offer starting or operating grants to for-profit businesses, there are government guaranteed loans available, so please check out our Loans and Grants Tool to see which ones your business qualifies for. Also, many states have job creation grants and tax incentives available for businesses that develop new job opportunities. Where are you located? Check with your state for more information on what's available in your area. Does anyone have specific experience with this field?

You may want to visit a small business development center or a SCORE office in your area. Both offer free counseling and they are knowledgable about the various government loan programs currently available. If you have invented a new product that is in the national interest, you may qualify for an SBIR grant to develop the product. However, the grants are very competitive and only a few are funded each year.
