I am trained in family medicine and looking for grants to cover professional fees i.e. ABFM examination, DEA number as I look to start my career in primary care medicine. What are my options?

so the key is whether its a comercial enterprise or a non profit? The op's occupation (medicine) fits'the bill. What are the guidelines for non profits? Could he pay himself an honorarium?

If your clinic will primarily serve low income and the uninsured, you might qualify for some type of grant funding. If you plan to work primarily with those who have insurance, then you would not qualify for a grant.

Hi HCMason, mrhelpful is right- the federal government does not provide grants for starting and expanding a business. Grants from the federal government are only available to non-commercial organizations, such as non-profits and educational institutions in areas such as, medicine, education, scientific research and technology development. Are you planning to start a business? If so, you can look into loans and other financing options.

what sort of business are you planning on starting exactly? I don't think you'll find there are grant available for this sort of thing - they tend to only be available for non-profit organisations
