I'm an owner/operator in the dump trucking business. Is it possible to get a grant or small business loan to cover some of the repair expenses I am experiencing right now? With economic slow down and fuel costs I could really use some help from the government that I support.

For both posters looking for a grant - either for money to make repairs or for start-up costs - you are probably wasting your time - grants just do not work that way - especailly government grants. There are some small private grants for general business purposes but most of these will only provide a few thousand dollars and they are very, very competitive (meaning very hard to get).
There are loans that both of you could tap into to. Micro credit loans are small business loans (up to $35,000 for start-up businesses and up to $50,000 for established businesses). These lenders are qualified by the SBA - but do know that they take time to get.
There are many ways to fund a business - and not just from traditional sources like banks. But, most of these are specific to your needs so you have to seek them out based on your specific needs. But, where there is a will there is a way. In fact, we just published an article about the many unconventional ways to finance a business.
Just keep reseaching and think outside of traditional ways and you will find the capital you need - it just might not come the source you thought it would or even from a source that you knew provided small business capital. But, keep looking and learning and you will find a way.

I am looking to start my own company and I was also want ot know if there are grants avible for start up costs souc as getting my tractor&trailer authority and insurance and ect.................
