Grants & Gov funds for Green Energy company

Are there government sponsored grants or funds solely set aside for solar and wind energy start up companies?  I wish to start a solar and wind energy company in my area as a franchise from an existing manufacturer. This new franchise would employ new people and or I could expand an existing business to incorporate the manufacturing of solar and wind products.

Thanks phanio! Dan1- You may want to check out Energy Incentives for Businesses in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act from the IRS as well.

There are programs - but I doubt you would qualify as a start up business - but who knows. Plus, most of these programs are for tax credit and not direct funding. VP Biden, in Dec, was trying to get an additional $5 billion in tax credits as the original $2.3 billion was over subscribed. Check with your state department of energy. Many states offer tax credits and other types of assistance in addition to federal programs.

direct funding seems to eb a real No-no for the Gov. Tax credits are great, but they don't help with the start up costs.
