I'm Eric, president of Electric Cars of New York, LLC. We are a startup which sells vehicles that have been converted from gas to electric. For example, at present, we are 'renovating' a 1996 Saab 900 to run on lithium ion batteries, getting 50 miles to a charge.
Similar conversion businesses have been around for over 10 years, but not in the New York City area, hence my geographic focus. What grants and/or loans might be available to a start-up (the business is only 3 month old) in the green transportation space? The grants i've seen at DOE for example, require a municipality to apply, that is, the grant is solely directed at converting local government fleets. Is there anything directed at entrepreneurs which I could apply for to help expand my business? As is often the case with us small folks, limited capital is limiting the scope of my feasible activities. Thanks for any advice.
If your city can apply for grant funds to convert their vehicles, they also be able to get grants funds from other sources like HUD - which they can then re-grant to you. Check with your local chamber of commerce to see what programs they have in your area.
You can also check grants.gov - to see what they have.
There are also other sources for business capital depending on the amount you are seeking or your current business venture.
