Grants for small business start-up?

I am looking for grants to help my husband and I start up a feed and hardware store in our community. We already have the building and property, however, the building needs some minor work, and then there is the inventory to stock it. Can someone point me in the right direction.

My husband and I have purchased inventory in a Christian bookstore. we want to continue with this and add a hobby center in the store . But we need to find a grant to further this business. Where do we go to find the funds? mross

@iplanner, Thank you for your suggestion. We try to keep our Loans and Grants Search tool up to date with information that can help small businesses. One problem is there are not many federal 'grants' available starting up a small business. We have many business articles on the topic of grants. I have a small beekeeping business. Due to the last couple of hurricanes and Colony Collapse Virus  I have lost 2/3 of my bees. I would like to receive a grant from the US government to restore my business and purchase new equipment. BeeKeeping is a very important part of our ecological balance and important to the well being of our country. Farmers depend on bees for pollination of the crops and many other aspects. Few people realize the importance of the Honey Bee.

'Grants' and 'business' are mutually exclusive words. 'Grants' are for NON-profits. 'Business' means profit. The only way I know to combine the two is to create a non-profit component to the business. For example, if that building is an historic building, there may be grants that will help you preserve, and even rebuild, it. If you can create a training center for underprivileged youth, instead of just hiring employess, there may be a grant that can help. But if what you want is profit, then you are looking for a loan. natyler56, I am sorry to hear about your bees. Check out the Business.gov Loans and Grants Search Tool. You might qualify for some special loans that can help you rebuild your bee population. You might also want to check with your state, especially the Department of Agriculture, but remember that grants are hard to come by. JimD
