I'm thinking of starting a hostel in California, and I'd like to know if there are any grants out there for a woman, like myself, starting a hostel (you know, a backpackers lodging accomodation). If you know of anything, it would be a great help!

There are few grants available to start for-profit businesses, whether they are woman-owned or not. You might check with your state department of tourism. States often assist with funding activities that will increase tourism, particularly if you are located in an area that could benefit from increased tourism.
