I am an experienced graphic designer that wants to begin a freelance business out of my home office. I have worked at design firms for the past ten years, but non of the freelancers I speak with seem to be able to give me a straight answer on the RIGHT WAY to establish a business.
Please understand, I am not refering to a business plan. I am refering to permits, registration, taxes, and any other details I need to get in order to do this the right way.
I am located in Fort Worth, Texas. There are no zoning laws in my area that would keep me from operating a business out of my home.
I would GREATLY APPRECIATE any sound advice you can give me.

I don't think you need any permits in Texas besides filling with the SOS. But, there are several Small Business Development Centers in Ft. Worth - make an appointment with them and ask them these questions. They offer free services (part of the SBA) and know your local and state markets.
