Hello All,

It's a joy to be here. I just joined and already I'm finding much information very helpful. I recently visited the Market Basket grocery store in Chelsea and I was just blown away. The place is huge, clean and the price on EVERYTHING was just right.

 

I would like to open a grocery store of the same stature in the Roxbury area. We really need a grocery store that delivers and supports this community. Stop & Shop and Star Market are missing the mark big time. Does anyone know where I need to start?

SCORE is a different (better) organziation then it was 10 years ago. You could aslo, as stated, find a small business development center (SBDC). They can help your research and develop a business and marketing plan. As part of the SBA, their services are free to use.

You might start by visiting your nearest small business development center or SCORE office to talk with a counselor. Their services are free. You will need to develop a business plan and a counselor can help with that.

Thank you so much for the speedy reply. Is SCORE the only organization around that provides support? I met with a SCORE representative about 10 years ago when I wanted to start a medical billing business.   I had a complete business plan and marketing strategy, but I got no where with the representative. I was told basically, if I weren't in the medical field already, it would be hard to get this kind of business off the ground. Needless to say I got discouraged and abandoned the idea.
