A friend of mine is hiring her very first employee and has no idea what to do. Is there a 'starter package' or something that has all the forms she needs to start deducting and filing the FUTA, Medicare, SSI, etc.?
I can say having just taken on our first employee that it involves a lot of reading and we also received a lot of very good advice from members in the local business networking group. I'm beginning to think that my wife had the easier task of reading up on the legal requirements because interviewing and finding the right staff seems even harder.
Of course taking on the 2nd employee should be a smoother ride as we have learnt a good deal.
I don't think there is any problem. You can take some help from the job consultant or try some job website support. They might help you to do the process. Why don't you hire some agency to help you out?
But I think you can do it yourself. Just search on the web and you will find many resources.

Check with your state department of labor. Your friend will need to deduct both federal and state taxes, SS and Medicare payments and possibly other things as well.
Check the link posted above for sure - hiring staff is a quantum leap in business, probably the single biggest step up you'll make. That decision to emplye someone to help your business grow is a big one and should be carefully considered.
A good employee can really grow your business, but a trouble maker can cause you huge headaches.
I'd recommend looking at soem fidelity guarantee insurance to protect you against theft etc by staff. as soon as you employ somoene else you're exposing yourself to significant risk - it's worth looking into cover against the worst case.
it goes without saying that you'd do reference checks and a police check, but dont underestimate how useful a credit check can be as well.
A really bad credit score can be a red flag to look for, especially if the employee has any financial duties in their role.

foreclosure get educated and you just might save your home.
