I am starting a photography studio and am working on the marketing portion of
the plan. I am having a hard time with the research because I cant figure out
what industry this is considered and there do ont seem to be others in this
area established as a photography studio. So how would I resurch this?

Look for industry associations. There are several devoted to various aspects of the photography industry.
I think you are right but in my view first of all identified your
audience,understand what you want to accomplish. Of course you should use
your social network platform and placements at local businesses to referral
cards, these ideas will get more people knowing who you are.
