Asecondchance, Financing is tight all over right now.  When your business is not doing well, your business plan will need to answer two very direct questions:   1.  Why aren't you making money, especially when second hand stores typically do well in a recession, and   2.  What are you going to do to change that?   'More of the same' just doesn't work with lenders.  You need to be able to demonstrate that you are a savvy business owner with a plan.  If you can do that effectively, check with your local SBA about microloans.  I suspect you don't need a lot, so the microloan program may benefit you.   Best, MaryAnn

Finding a grant for a 'for-profit' business is very unlikely.  For a woman owned business, there use to be a few grants (small amounts like $500 to $1,000) but these have dried up in this economy.   There are other options like micro-credit or peer-to-peer lending or even leveraging the strengths of your business.  These are non-bank lenders that are still saying 'yes.'

There seem to be no grants available for that topic, also my income is not adequate enough to receive a loan. How could I persue my dreams as an entreprenuer and get start-up funding.   divorced mom of 3 in need for a change.

People need to stop chasing these non existent grants. I posted here on another thread that the CEO of SCORE said himself that he has been in the business of helping small businesses for 16 years and has never met a single person that got a grant. As has been said here again and again, there are no grants for for-profit businesses or startups or minorities or women or disabled or anybody else looking for free money to start or run their business. The government grants that are available are for highly specialized industries and must meet extremely stringent criteria. There is no free government money. The government does not have 'lots of money out there'. At least not for small business. Read through the posts here and learn the truth about grants. And I say DONATIONS not Loans (or grants).
