I'm trying to start an online business but I'm having problems knowing just how much I need to start off. I know how much the domain and hosting will be but not how much I need to buy products wholesale. This is because A) wholesale prices are only availible to people with a merchant licence (or something along that line) and B) I have no idea how much I'd have to buy in bulk. Sorry, that wasn't much of an introduction and I'm sure it belongs in another section but I had to get that off my chest.
The first thing you need to do is register your business name and entity type with your state or county agency that registers businesses. Then you can apply for a reseller's permit from your state tax commission or revenue department. Having that permit will allow you to purchase wholesale. It is easy to obtain the permit.
Wholesalers may also require you to have a tax payer identification number (EIN), which you can quickly obtain from the IRS by phone, fax, or mail.
