how to correct city/state data

Using the url http://api.business.gov/geodata/city_data_for_state_of/fl.xml ,

 

it reports that 'spring hill' is in alachua county, leon, santa rosa, hernando, and bay counties. Only hernando is right. How do I get it corrected?

Well, USGS calls spring hill in santa rosa county (florida) a 'populated place'.   Place or area with clustered or scattered buildings and a permanent human population (city, settlement, town, village). A populated place is usually not incorporated and by definition has no legal boundaries. However, a populated place may have a corresponding 'civil' record, the legal boundaries of which may or may not coincide with the perceived populated place. Distinct from Census and Civil classes.   So why is it in your 'cities in state of' data?

Jbyrkit, The city and county location data that is a part of the Business.gov API comes directly from the USGS Geographic Names Information System (GNIS). GNIS data includes incorporated places, census designated areas, unincorporated places, counties, and populated places. In the API, Business.gov also supplements the geographic data with official URLs of cities and counties when available. I would contact USGS with your correction. Hope this helps! AriM
