How do I find information about local government contracts out for bid and awarded?

I work in the IT staffing industry and would like to start tracking government contracts in my area so I can partner with businesses that are bidding the contracts. I have looked online and cannot find any easy way to do this. Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to find local contracts (mostly I.T. and Engineering). Any information would be greatly appreciated!

I know where to find the RFP but it seems as though to even get considered you have to already know someone.  We have submitted multiple RFPs to government entities and don't even get a follow up usually.

Your starting point is fedbizopps (short for federal business opportunities). Fedbizopps is located at www.fbo.gov. If you want to find out what is in your field of IT, you should go to https://www.fbo.gov/index?tabmode=form&tabid=&_new=1 and set up a search agent. When you identify the area of your interest and go through that web page, you can then save this search agent and every day at about 4 to 5 am, you will receive all the open bids in your field. Are you looking for contract opportunities or for the names of companies that have been awarded contracts? If you are looking for bidding opportunities, then fedbizopps will offer federal bidding opportunities. You can register with your state department of purchasing to find state contracts. If you are looking for the names of companies that have won contracts, that will be more difficult to find. Sometimes the information is published in newspapers, but not always. If you have a local business newspaper, they sometimes publish lists of contract awards, particularly for state government contracts.

Contracts that are publicly bid can be an issue if they skirt the spirit of competitive bidding requirements.Common Cause has seen local governments award contracts in which the specifications are so narrowly constructed that there 'can only be one qualified bidder'. Credit card Application

Dear LanguageSchool: The best way to find out about local government contracts our for bid and/or awarded is to subscribe to one of the services like BidSync and others like it. If you know that you want to do business in a certain locality, then I would register with their vendor registration system. It's usually free at the city/county level. Jos A.
