base or government agency that you're wanting to work with and introduce
yourself and your business.

In Texas, it is best to go directly to the procurement page. I did that today and found a bid for auto repair at http://esbd.cpa.state.tx.us/sfreelist4444.cfm. Go there and work yourself around. The Texas search page is located at: http://esbd.cpa.state.tx.us/

Most state agencies purchase through the state purchasing department. In most states, you have to sign up to receive notification and be able to bid on opportunities. Local government agencies (cities, counties) often list their needs in the classified section of newspapers as an Invitation to Bid or something similar. Be aware that, when dealing iwth government agencies of all types, contracts are usually awarded through a bid process. There are times when you may be the only bidder and other times when you may be competing against several other businesses. Often, you will have no idea how many bids are placed for each contract.
