If there are any colleges local to you check them for buisness courses. Any kind of buisness you start requires at least a basic understaning of buisness in general and gettin some buisness courses under your belt couldnt hurt. Visit your county recorders office to file a fictitious business name statement. You will pay a fee (they usually accept checks) and receive instructions to complete your filing.Take your paperwork and go to the bank of your choice to open up a business bank account. You will need to have a business bank account so that your customers can pay you.Buy some business cards and brochures advertising your new security guard business. You will want to have them with you all the time to pass out to prospective customers.

Hey Gary You really need to ask yourself a number of important questions up front first. What experience do you actually have in that industry? Most companies might be reluctant to hire someone who has no previous experience. What type of background in terms of training or courses have you taken? Example - there are security courses available and some may even offer certification. As well, many security officers will need to know basic first aid in case of emergencies. Like other's have mentioned, you will need to check with your local city license requirements because it depends what type of security you will be doing. You will likely have to be bondable, meaning you can't have any criminal convictions. Also, if you are not bondable, that means you may not even get insurance for your business. If you have never done that type of work before, my suggestion is go and get hired first with another agency. That way, you will likely be able to get some organized training, work with a company for say a year or 2 to build up your actual experience. Cheers

Hello Garry, I think the security business is something from other business field. Its a job full of responsibility and alertness. I am 100% sure that you have to take permission from your local police department and also from state authority. You have to register your company and join many other small big security organization too. If you need arms or weapon then you need to take license for them. I hope this will help out. All the best.

My first question is, what do you know about being a security guard?   Assuming you are a security guard working for someone else, the best way to start any business is to write a business plan.  There are plenty of business plans on this website to use as a guide.   Writing a business plan will answer most of the questions you need answered before starting.   If you have no experience as a security guard, I'd suggest working for a security firm for a year or two.  That will give you the experience you need to write your business plan.  Also, you will make your beginner's mistakes at someone else's expense, not your own.
