My wife and I are trying to start a non emergency transport business in Gainesville, Florida. There are really only two major transporters currently in our area but I understand there are about 20 mom and pop operations around the area. We are looking to start out with just one vehicle but we want to do all of our homework before starting. We have registered with SCORE here locally and will be meeting with them next month. My wife is a nurse practitioner and I have worked with Fedex for over 26 years. My wife works in a local hospital and works at assisted living facilities in a different city and county. So she has quite a few contacts. Just looking for advice on what to research in my local area to make sure we do all our homework. I also know the owner of one of the major transporters in the area but I feel awkward asking him questions when I could potentially be a competitor. I know he runs his operation in a top notch manner. Any advise on where to go from here would be helpful.
