HUBZone Procurement and Local Government Participation

After some research it seems that our local government officials including
those working in Economic Development have not made the connection between
HUBZones and Jobs. I would like to present this as a discussion and perhaps,
if the comments merit, share some of the comments with the local government
officials in our districts.
The basic conversation is can local public officials do more to promote the
existing HUBZone Certified companies located in their regions. The Council
has over 300 minority technology companies located nationwide and we are
engaging local officials to see if they consider the HUBZone program part of
their economic development strategy. I’ve been told that the HUBZone
program has close to a $3Billion shortfall. This could potentially represent
over 200,000 jobs so it seems our elected officials in those areas hardest
hit by our past economic downturn would lobby for an increase in contracting
in their local identified HUBZones. It seems they would seek out HUBZone
companies and develop strategies to ensure those small businesses get
business.
So here is my question. For those community members who are in fact current
HUBZone Certified have you been approached by your local government for
teaming or to promote your company. And for others including subject matter
expert experts and those giving technical assistance to HUBZone Certified
companies what is your experience on Local Government and the HUBZone
program?
