Internet business offering apprenticeship information

Hello.

I am planning to actively going to promote my new business, www.kidprentice.com online and would appreciate advice.

Here is what I will be offering or featuring on the site:

1. Free articles and downloads for learning/tips

2. Affiliate links for revenue generation

3. Sponsorship ads for local businesses

4. Workshop information

5. Calls for free article submission from kids and teens

6. Apprenticeship-matching (Based on kids' requests, they will be paired with a professional in a particular industry)

This business will also extend from the internet to actual workshop events - paid and free events.

I want to make sure that I am registering this business correctly, as we will be working with kids and teens, and their parents.

Are there special forms, licenses or registration materials that I would need when working with kids and teens? This isn't a typical apprenticeship program through schools or non-profit organizations. This will be a revenue-generating business, mostly through online ads, affiliate commissions and workshop costs.

Hi Christine: Someone under the age of 18 cannot legally enter into a contract. So, if this is something you're doing that will require the child to commit to something, then you will need to make sure that the parent signs the agreement.

Hi kidprentice, Congratulations on starting your business! If you haven't already, please check out our Online Business Guide. You will need to go through the 10 steps to starting a business and registering your business. Since your web-based business will target children, it is even more important to stay compliant with laws. You can read up here on COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) and online advertising laws. The FTC has more information on drafting a COPPA compliant privacy policy and how to comply with COPPA. Also, please feel free to use our Permit Me Tool that generates a list of necessary permits and licenses that you need to file. You just need to input your state and your industry. I would suggest that you find a small business development center (SBDC) in your area. They would know first hand all the requirements you need for your state and locale. The sbdcs are part of the SBA and are free to use.
