Hello, My name is Dana and I am the Co/Owner of a garage door company based in Maryland. My husband is the other partner in the business. We are not new to the business world per say. We have been helping running my husband's fathers company for well over 15 years now. This past year we have decided to bite the bullet and dive in ourselves. His fathers wants to take his company in a different direction than what we have in mind. We want to go more the federal contract route, while his parents thinks its a really bad idea to dabble into the federal contract world. Now, all the while, I have been filing numerous of paperwork to get us in the system to be able to bid on Govt/ federal jobs. I am just hoping for any tips or advice out there. There are some things where I feel like I am way in over my head. Also, our company is 51% own by me making me the majority owner. I deal with all the paperwork and management of the company. However, I was told that in order for me to be consider an actual "Women own business" I need to also be able to be certify in doing the work myself. I am a bit confused, cause I know first hand businesses where the female ran the company, but just hired out for the work to be done.. Am I missing something? Once again if there is any tips or advice you can share please do.. Thank you very much for your time.
