Just getting started...

Hello all. I am a disabled male veteran and am beginning to create my new
business. I enjoy woodcarving, so I started "Canes for Courage" in my
basement. I specialize in custom-carved canes, walking sticks, and small to
large relief carvings. I have a site established on GoDaddy to hopefully lure
in some customers that way. I am also applying to the various craft shows in
and around the Richmond area.
Is there someone who can mentor me to make this venture a success? I think I
have carved out a unique niche that will be popular with nor only veterans,
but fire, police, EMS, Churches...anyone who wants a custom cane or stick.

get a mentor, but you should also start taking care of some of the basics of
getting the business entity established. The longer you mix your personal and
business activities and finances, the harder it becomes to untangle.
Personally, I think it's always a good idea to create a Limited Liability
Company (LLC) for your business. This will give you some personal liability
protection in case something bad happens with your business.
You should also set up a separate bank account for your business to make it
easier to track those expenses and revenues separately.
You'll also want to set up QuickBooks for your business to keep the books in
order, so you don't have any issues when it comes time to file your income
tax return.
There is quite a bit more, but this would get you started. It's a very
exciting process to breathe life into a new business. Good luck!
