If I want to baby-sit for a friend every week (35 hours a week), am I required to gain a business license? I have a child of my own, and she has a daughter. I would be watching both children at my house and would be getting paid. Where can I find information about Kentucky child care laws dealing with this situation? I read somewhere that in some states you can only watch children for a certain number of hours without having to get a business license and actually start a day care. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Have you tried using our Permit Me Tool? By plugging in your criteria, you'll generate this list of licenses and permits for KY and Child Care Service.

You should be able to find the information you need on the web site of the Kentucky Division of Regulated Child Care at http://chfs.ky.gov/os/oig/drcc.htm
Many states consider the number of children being watched rather than the number of hours watched when determining the need for a license.
